How can I grow sweet corn in Barbados.?

I started a crop of sweet corn last april, I live in Barbados it a trropoical island and we do grow corn here, and at first all was well , the corn stalks grew to about four feet tall, started PUTING OUT LITTLE EARS THEN THE EARS SEEMED TO DRY OFF, THEY "THE EARS OF CORN" were about three inches long. The things just dried up I wet them every day becuse it was pretty hot and the soil drains fast here. So how can i get these corns large enough for reaping and keep the healthy.
