A friend of my daughter borrowed my clothes and didn't return them?

My daughter's was going on a cruise and wanted to borrow my dress.I told her she could go in my closet and pick a dress and return promptly anything she picked out. Months later when I was looking for a certain outfit, I couldn't find it but just figured I misplaced them. I had my daughter call the girl (who she no longer hung out with) and get my stuff back. My daughter called but she would say "your mom can pick it up anytime" which made me mad. My daughter also loaned her her Ipod. I got sick of it so I called the girl myself (she is 17) and told her that I wanted my stuff back TODAY. She said some excuse about being grounded and I said I don't care, I want the Ipod and my clothes today. So she evidently told her mom who called me back fussing at me for being rude to "her child" and that I should have called her instead. I said the girl was adult enough to borrow the stuff so she was adult enough to return them. That day she returned stuff I didn't even know she had. Was I wrong?
